I had just
set up a house and was in the finishing leg of decorating it. With
most of the furniture and furnishings in place, the house looked
almost done up. Well not quiet. I needed to add some warmth to the
whole area. “Just throw in a rug or two” quipped my husband not
knowing that he had indeed spoken the magic words. Rugs, as we all
know, does add warmth in the winters but that was not the kind of
warmth I was talking about. But who cares, because rugs was the
perfect answer to my woes. Rugs have something that instantly lights
up the room – they are warm, colorful and have a friendly demeanor.
And for the first time, I was actually going to listen to my
husband!
So I
pulled up my lap top and settled myself into a comfortable chair to
search for the right rugs for my new home. I was an avid online
shopper, and it took me no time to zero in to some good rug
websites, Rugman and
Home Decorators
Collection being among them. I was fascinated as I browsed
through pages and pages of rugs – rugs of all kinds. There were the
famous Persian and Oriental rugs on one hand while on the other you
had contemporary, country, flokati, novelty, southwestern,
traditional and transitional rugs. Wow! That was some variety and it
completely depended on what I wanted or rather on the mood I wanted
each room to reflect.
I took a
little time to mentally run through each room and see how I had
envisaged them to be. Let’s start with the living room. I wanted the
living room to be a formal area to entertain guests; so I picked an
exquisite beige and green Yazd rug from Persia. I could already see
the admiration in Mrs. Adams eyes even as she strove to contain
herself from asking about the rug. And I knew I had to do more than
just place the rug there. So I looked up some information on Yazd
rugs and here’s what I found. Yazd is an ancient city in central
Iran that had for centuries now been weaving some of the most
exquisite rugs in the world. Yazd is said to have one of the
earliest workshops for the Safavid Dynasty.
I
proceeded toward the dining room. I would not call it a room, rather
it was more of a dining area or space so I decided to give this a
skip. After all, there was the dining table that covered most of the
floor space.
The guest
room was next. My parents were the most frequent guests that
occupied the room and I searched for something along their tastes.
They were old so vibrant colors were out, so were contemporary
motifs. It had to be something sober, warm, and easy on the eyes. So
I picked one from
Home Decorators.
It was a simple sober Jefferson Area rug.
From there
on, I moved to the children’s room. Here’s where I wanted the
maximum color. It had to be bright yet not abrasive. And so I spent
the maximum amount of time figuring out what would be the right
choice for them. I didn’t quite think that I would find what I was
looking for in rugman.com as they specialized in Persian and
Oriental rugs but I was pleasantly surprised. The website had some
beautiful child friendly rugs with one better than the other. And
the time spent here was not in trying to locate a good rug, rather
which one (from the many beautiful rugs) would be best for our home.
After much deliberation, I finally decided on a pretty pink and
yellow butterfly patch rug.
Finally it
was the master bedroom. This was the easiest. I knew what I wanted.
It had to be unique – perhaps a touch of art. So I picked a piece
from the contemporary collection of
Home Decorators.
It was an artistic yet stylish Profile Area rug.
Most of
these rugs came at a discounted price and being the avid online
shopper that I am, I always have my discount coupons handy. So
without much ado, I proceeded to make my purchase with the hope that
my family and friends would get floored the next time they visited
me!
